BC Breweries Win 40 Awards at 2021 Canadian Brewing Awards

The 19th Annual Canadian Brewing Awards were given out on September 18th, 2021, at an event held at the Hilton Québec in Québec City, and brewers from British Columbia took home 40 trophies.

The big wins came from the Prairies this year, with a repeat for Alberta with The Establishment Brewing Company taking home Brewery of the Year, and in Rebellion Brewing from Regina, Saskatchewan taking home Beer of the Year for their Cherry Lambic, which was made even more impressive by beating out Toronto’s Indie Alehouse and their 10-4-20, which recently won World’s Best Lambic at the World Beer Awards.

On the West Coast, BC took home 40 awards, a drop of three compared to last year, but the number of wins from the Québec breweries and their hometown advantage seemed to take away from most other provinces. BC breweries also swept two categories: American Style India Pale Ale; and Belgian-Style Abbey Ale / Pale Ale.

The most any brewery in BC won was two awards, which speaks to the range of good quality breweries across the Province. Of those, four breweries won one gold and one silver medal: Moon Under Water Brewpub in Victoria; Mt. Begbie Brewing in Revelstoke; Steel & Oak Brewing in New Westminster; and Strange Fellows Brewing in Vancouver. Burnaby’s Dageraad Brewing won two silvers; Parallel 49 Brewing (Vancouver) took home a silver and bronze; and Port Alberni’s Twin City Brewing won two bronze.

In addition to those mentioned above, several other BC breweries won first place trophies, including: Deep Cove Brewers and Distillers (North Vancouver); Dog Mountain Brewing (Port Alberni); East Van Brewing (Vancouver); Five Roads Brewing (Langley); Phillips Brewing (Victoria); Slackwater Brewing (Penticton); and Whistler Brewing,
