The 3rd annual Penticton Beer Run returns June 8th. Growing in popularity each year, the annual event is expecting to attract more than 400 participants from all over the Okanagan and beyond.

Brewery Teams compete for prizes!

Last year we went behind the scenes in Will Run for Beer to learn the full story of how the Penticton Beer Run came into existence. We caught up again with event organizer Mike Hill of Hoodoo Adventures to find out what’s new for 2019.

An Updated Route

The Penticton Beer Run boasts a beautiful, gentle 10 km course showing off some of the best vistas in the South Okanagan. The flat or gentle downhill route is easily managed by running or walking and is following a slightly new course for 2019. The run will be starting at D’Angelo Winery & Guest House on Naramata Bench and then follows the Kettle Valley Rail Trail to enter town. The course will still take in all that is unique and special about Penticton and the surrounding area but will have a new finish line at Okanagan Lake. View the updated course map.

The start line is at D’Angelo Winery & Guesthouse on the Naramata Bench.

Hydration and Sustenance

The Beer Run will include beer tastings from Cannery Brewing, Bad Tattoo BrewingTin Whistle Brewing, Barley Mill Brewpub & Bistro, Highway 97 Brewing, plus *NEW Penticton brewery Slackwater Brewing. Possibly more breweries to come! Bites supplied by Smugglers Smoke House, Patio Burger and Papa John’s Pizza.

The run features hydration stops at a selection of Penticton breweries like Cannery Brewing (pictured).

PRIZES

This is race is known for outlandish and creative costumes. Highway 97 Brewing has donated a cup for Best Local Brewery Team based on criteria such as best costume, attitude, team size, engagement etc. For the last two years, the prize has been won by Cannery Brewing. There will also be a Best Overall Team Spirit prize awarded. Judges will be on the course and will include race director officials.

There will also be prize draws for adventure tours from Hoodoo Adventures, a weekend stay at Chute Lake Lodge and BC Ale Trail swag and spot prizes from each brewery.

For a Great Cause

This event is a fundraiser with all net proceeds going to the Youth Outdoor Recreation Society.  This not for profit provides subsidized outdoor programs for local youth. It helps to educate young people in the benefits of an outdoor lifestyle through outdoor education programs, camps, and courses – we get kids outside and promote confidence and leadership through lessons from the land. In just a few short years YORS has helped to have kids in the outdoors for over 225,000 hours.

In 2018 the Youth Outdoor Recreation Society partnered with local businesses to create 200,000 hours of outdoor memories.

Giving Thanks

This event could not happen without the incredible support from all of the craft breweries on the Penticton Ale Trail plus the breweries new to the community. They have all offered enthusiastic support from day one, as has the BC Ale Trail.
