BC beer won yet more accolades last week, when the World Beer Awards 2017 style winners were announced in London.
White Sails Brewing of Nanaimo earned the title of world’s best black IPA for its Snake Island CDA, while Mt. Begbie Brewing of Revelstoke recorded another big win for its highly decorated High Country Kolsch, which was named world’s best.
Both breweries won the Canadian best-of-style awards for those respective beers, before they were pitted against other beers of those styles from across the world.
White Sails’ CDA went one better than last year, when Snake Island won the best-in-country category for the black IPA style.
The downtown-Nanaimo brewery won another best-in-Canada award this year for its Mt. Benson IPA, as did Whistler Brewing Co. for Black Tusk Ale (in the mild ale category) and Okanagan Spring Brewery for its porter (strong porter category).
There were a further three silver-medal wins for Whistler Brewing and a gold and a bronze for Okanagan Spring, while Bad Tattoo Brewing of Penticton also scored a bronze.
It’s turning into a banner year for Mt. Begbie, which was named brewery of the year at the Canadian Brewing Awards in May, after winning gold medals for its kolsch and cream ale.
And there may be further World Beer Awards in store this year, with the recipients of eight “World’s Best” trophies to be announced Sept. 21.
Following that, all eyes will be on the BC Beer Awards in October to see White Sails and Mt. Begbie can collect even more high-end hardware this year.
