Back in early March, just before the COVID-19 pandemic arrived here in British Columbia, Aaron Johnson visited Vancouver Island. After enjoying Lift Off!, the first night of Victoria Beer Week, Aaron headed Up Island.
This episode of the Cascadian Beer Podcast focuses on Duncan, located in the beautiful Cowichan Valley, renowned for its warm Mediterranean climate. There he visited Small Block Brewing, the labour of love of Cate and Aaron Scally.
The couple discovered homebrewing when Aaron broke his arm a few years back and needed something to keep himself occupied. As their beer got better and better, they started talking about opening their own brewery.
The brewery is conveniently located just off Highway 1 as you enter Duncan on the drive up Vancouver Island from Victoria.
