7th Annual Chocolate and Beer Tasting
March 8, 2020 @ 1:00 pm - 3:00 pm
$50.00This annual fundraiser for Parkinson Society British Columbia will pair local handcrafted @takeafancychocolate bean to bar chocolate confections with Moody Ales and The Bakery Brewing local craft beer to create new pops of flavour and combinations that will change the way you think about beer and chocolate for years to come. There will be 6 pairings specially created for this event.
Julian Zelazny, is a brewer at Moody Ales and BC’s only Beer Judge Certification Program’s (BJCP) Master Beer Judge. Becks D’Angleo, owner of Take A Fancy Chocolate is a bean to bar chocolate maker based in Robert’s Creek. She also has a regular booth at the Vancouver Farmers Market throughout the year (Riley Park, Trout Lake, and Kitsilano). Her chocolate is amazing.
Every year we get together and create craft beer and chocolate pairings that take both to a new flavour profile when eaten together. We want people to have a new appreciation for beer and chocolate beyond a stout and a brownie, which is, of course, delicious, but we have gone beyond that!
The pairings are set for March. There are 6 beers (4 from Moody Ales and 2 from Bakery Brewing) and 6 chocolates. All but one of the chocolates this year are designed and created for the event and for the specific beer they are paired with. We are also using Take A Fancy’s signature chocolate this year which is the Gooey Pecan. Here is an example of 2 of this year’s pairings.
1. Beer – Moody Ales Super Simco IPA
Chocolate – 72% espresso infused Tanzanian chocolate with coffee salt
Flavour pop – espresso with lemon rind
2. Beer – Moody Ales London Red Ale
Chocolate – 72% Dominican chocolate with tahini salted honey center and 50/50 dark milk heart on top
Flavour pop -there is a toasty, peanut skin characteristic that comes through and accentuates the bitterness in an otherwise malt-forward beer.
