Nanaimo Beer Week – Brewed Awakenings

February 19, 2020 @ 5:00 pm - 7:00 pm

$20

In the spirit of raising your glass to the past, we Marty McFly back in time for Brewed Awakenings: a tour of beer from the pre-historic to the pretty hysterical!

The night will feature tastings and discussions of two brews from LoveShack Libations (Qualicum Beach) that are inspired by ancient recipes: Odin’s Eye (Viking-era grog) and Horn of Heimdall Maltøl (Norwegian Farmhouse Ale). LoveShack’s Crafty Cream Ale will also be served.

VIU Professor and our own Indiana Jane (who won’t be serving Shirley Temples of Doom), Dr. Marie Hopwood, will lead the discussion alongside LoveShack Libations owner & brewer, Dave Paul.

Local beer historian and Pub City Maniac Sean Enns will also spin riveting tales of Nanaimo’s rather colourful brewing and brewery history. If you thought Nanaimo brewing history started with Fat Cat Brewing in the 1990s, think again; there was something brewing on these shores at the same time as Confederation.

Tickets: $20, which includes beer samples. Tickets available in advance beginning on Saturday, January 11 at 9 AM at www.nanaimocraftbeer.com. Must be 19+ to attend.
